Sacraments
At Our Lady Queen of Peace we receive three Sacraments:
- The Sacrament of Reconciliation in Year 3
- First Holy Communion in Year 3
- Confirmation in Year 6.
Our school prides itself on strong links between the parish, school and home. This means that the preparation for these sacraments remains very strong.
The children have an excellent understanding of how taking part in these sacraments provide a greater relationship between themselves and God.
Reconciliation
The sacrament of Reconciliation is received only by those baptised in the catholic faith. However we do ensure that all children in Year 3 are, where possible, involved in the celebration of the sacrament and ensures that those children who are not baptised in the Catholic faith are still enabled to participate as fully as possible whilst supporting their classmates during their preparation.
Holy Communion
The children start preparing for this following their Reconciliation and Parents/Carers will be invited to meetings involved both School, Parish priest and members of the parish. The preparation takes place during RE lessons .
The children receive Holy Communion in May and is a day of celebration embraced by the school, the pupils, the church and the wider parish community.
Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation takes place each year and is recieved by pupils in year 6 who are baptised in the Catholic faith. Once again we encouraged pupils in year 6 who are not baptised in the Catholic faith to support their peers during this preparation and service,
Once again, there are meetings between school, parents, parish catechists and parish priest in order to assist parents with preparing their children. The children are extremely excited about encouraging all their family and friends to come join them in church on the night of their confirmation. Confirmatuon usually takes place in November each year.
